2016 Kentucky Birth Summit:
Group B Strep, Newborn Procedures, and the Legal Rights of Childbearing Families

Update: Time has been changed to 3-8 pm to accomodate people who are attending the SJE maternity fair in the morning!

Ticket sales close on Wednesday, May 11!

Evidence Based Birth® has created a live event that will serve as the catalyst for nurses, midwives, physicians, doulas, and childbirth educators from around Kentucky and surrounding states to build their expertise so that they can continue to bring evidence based care to birthing families!

Join us for the inaugural Evidence Based Birth® Summit on May 14th, 2016, for a four-hour continuing education workshop in Lexington, Kentucky. All of the proceeds will be donated towards a grassroots organization that is working to expand midwifery access in Kentucky.

FAQ

Will I be able to earn CEUs?

Yes! Evidence Based Birth® is a continuing education provider for the Kentucky Board of Nursing. This Summit offers 4.0 nursing contact hours that are accepted by most doula and childbirth organizations (including DONA International) as well as organizations for certified professional midwives. We have also applied for 0.4 CEUs from the American College of Nurse Midwives.

Is this a special fundraiser?

Yes! The proceeds from ticket sales at this event will be directly donated to the Kentucky Home Birth Coalition, a grassroots organization that is working hard to expand midwifery options in Kentucky. The coalition is currently employing a lobbyist at the cost of about $2,000 per month. Their funding will run out in June 2016. Keeping a lobbyist during the legislative "off season" is critical to their goal of getting legislation passed in 2017. Our goal with this Summit in May is to fund the cost of a lobbyist for at least one month and hopefully two!

Why are there different priced packages?

This a fundraiser to go towards a great cause, and we wanted to create different levels for those of you who can contribute different amounts! Also, there are costs associated with providing continuing education units. The professional and deluxe packages help cover those costs so that we can provide you with CEUs (and other perks!). The basic admission price is for those of you who would like to attend, but do not need the CEUs.

What if I'm coming from out of town?

If you're traveling from out of town, we recommend staying at either the Hampton Inn- South Lexington or the Courtyard Lexington Keeneland/Airport. These hotels are about a 5-10 minute drive from the venue, and are close to restaurants.

Lexington, Kentucky, is within a days' drive of two-thirds of the population of the United States. Lexington is strategically located at the intersectino of Interstates 64 and 75.

When is the deadline to register?

The deadline to register is Wednesday, May 11 by 9 PM EDT.

What if I can't attend because I'm at a birth?

Unfortunately, due to the up-front costs of preparing for your attendance, refunds are not available. However, if you are not able to attend, we can supply you with equivalent priced digital products from Evidence Based Birth®. For example, if you paid $50 and cannot attend, you will be offered $50 worth of digital products or classes from EBB, and so on.
